The town municipal court in Chennai is to take up for hearing today a plea seeking a stay on the issue of the Tamil movie Jilla, starring Vijay and Mohanlal in the lead.
The film is to issue tomorrow.
The plea has been filed by R Mahendran of Soumita Sri Arts. In his appeal filed in the court, the producer has allegedly said that his company Soumita Sri creative pursuits had dubbed the Telugu movie Bageeratha, starring Prakash Raj and Shriya in the lead, as Jilla in Tamil.
He moves on to claim that he listed the name Jilla with the movie and Television producers Guild of South India in 2008 and that his film was censored by the Censor Board which issued a certificate on 28-5-2008. From then, he had been waiting for an befitting time to release his movie.
Mahendran claimed that at this juncture he had discovered through newspaper advertisements that another movie by the identical title was to be released on January 10. He was thus requesting the honourable court to topic a stay on the release of the movie.
This case first came up for hearing on Tuesday. The court had then organised notices to be handed out to the defendants including Super Good movies, the producers of the Vijay starer Jilla.
